Joywave : ‘Now’

Every week I’m finding a new song to love from the Joywave album. This week : ‘Now’.

I love how this track keeps switching styles, like it can’t quite make up its mind on what it wants to sound like, so ends up trying everything instead. It goes from these 80’s-Pop-heavy verses, to a very Gorillaz ‘Feel Good Inc’ sounding bridge right before the first chorus, and then to a 90’s-Alternative-Rock power chorus. Oh and let’s not forget that beautiful breakdown at 2:35, with what reminds me of an electric drill being infused into the music. And just when you think all gears have been used, they slow the entire song down at the end to become an 80’s ballad.

If this track isn’t a trip, then I don’t know what is.
