THIS WEEK’S 2 GUEST POSTS BY CHRIS HOLMES FROM ‘THE RIGHTOVERS’:
“We’re a jangly pop band from Hawaii inspired by the Jesus & Mary Chain, Pavement, The Clean, and a myriad of other indie–and not so indie-rock. “
Chris’ 2nd Pick : This is a song off The Go’s 2013 record Fiesta, which might be the most authentically ’60s-sounding record that wasn’t recorded in the ’60s that I’ve heard. Besides recording it to tape, I read that the band also did things like use a tuning flute instead of pedals to go the extra mile. The songs are great too, most of which are really poppy, like “Beyond the Beyond.” This jam has a great chorus, cool drumming, and a hooky baseline. I like their masterful use of double-tracked vocals, too, something I usually don’t attempt in my own music.
