Before the last Third Eye Blind album came out this year, I kept wondering whether their music would still be relevant today, years after they were the mainstream Rock darlings of the late 90s? When I finally heard Dopamine, I realized that the band had just released some of their finest tracks to date.
Take ‘Back to Zero’ for example – a song written when Stephen Jenkins, (who was suffering from writer’s block at the time), traded places and lives with another musician from a bad neighbourhood. I can play this track on repeat, and each time without fail that last chorus makes my hair stand. This is what 3EB were always masters at: packing an emotional punch through their explosive, signature Alternative-Rock sound.
Yup, it still works like a (semi)-charm in 2015.
