This is the kind of sound that’s still releveant today thanks to bands like Wolf Alice, but Denali should get a lot of credit for releasing ‘Surface’ back in 2003. This is an Indie Rock classic right here, and holds a special place in my heart just for the way the melody and rhythm keep changing throughout. The guitar at the 3:30 mark always manages to make my hair stand. And whenever this song comes on, I always wait for the vocals right at the end. If Muse ever needed to replace their lead singer with a female vocalist, Maura Davis would be a great candidate.
