Deftones : ‘Pink Maggit’

I can’t think of a better way to end this little Deftones week I’m having than with their 3rd album White Pony – a classic in every sense of the word. It’s the type of album that most bands could only dream of writing because there isn’t a single track on there that isn’t perfect. In the same way that people used the Beatles’ Abbey Road as a gold standard for measuring the bands of that time, White Pony is the yardstick used for contemporary artists that try and expand the Rock/Metal genre. ‘Pink Maggit’, (the original song that ‘Back to School’ is based on), to this day makes my hair stand – from the way the song starts ever so gentle, to the sudden burst of that heavy Deftones spark, and finally to the way it quietly settles down and brings the album to a close with a heartbeat.
