Deftones : ‘Acid Hologram’

After weeks of binging on the new Deftones album, I have come to the conclusion that this is definitely my favourite song from Gore. It has this old school Deftones feel to it – one that reminds me of the music from their Self-Titled album. I love how sinister and sluggish the verses are, and how they effortlessly shift gears into this sublime, bouncy chorus. The contrast almost makes me feel like I’m underwater, looking up, catching glimpses of the sun and shoreline.

It also has some of the best vocal work I’ve heard from Chino Moreno, not to mention those growls that only add to the overall murkiness of the song. And the icing on the cake? Those maracas that come out of nowhere at the 3 minute mark. Instant classic this one.
