Buddy Holly – Weezer

Garry Marshall passed away yesterday, and apart from being a popular filmmaker, he was also famous for creating the TV sitcom Happy Days. The show inspired one of my all time favourite music videos, which was directed by one of my all time favourite directors (Spike Jonze) for one of my all time favourite songs (Buddy Holly), taken from one of my favourite albums (Weezer aka the Blue Album).  Phew.  Happy Days effectively encapsulated a stereotypical Americana lifestyle of the 1950’s and 1960’s. Similarly, Weezer’s songwriting gave the music of that same exact time period an upgrade, i.e., more distortion. This right here is a classic, and besides crossing over so many timelines, it also doesn’t feel dated one bit.
